First Stroke Survivors Beach Walk

Stroke Support Association caregiver member Dorothea shared photos from the first 3rd Saturday of the Month Stroke Survivors Beach Walk.  The inaugural walk was kicked off February 17, 2024,  after a last-minute cancellation in January due to a torrential downpour. For safety, the monthly walks will be cancelled if it rains. Everybody is invited to participate.

Twenty stroke survivors and supporters met at Junipero Beach in front of Saltwater Deck Restaurant.  Most of the walkers accomplished a two-mile roundtrip to the Belmont Shore Pier. Afterwards, many of us gathered for camaraderie and snacks. (Dorothea’s sister Lina was manning the snack table.)  It was a good community gathering of those participating in therapy, classes, and group sessions.  We walked. We talked. We shared. And we learned a little about each other. Many of the participants were from the Long Beach Stroke Support Association, including Dorothea Epsulan, Paul Gonzalez, Cheryl and Berge Yacoubian, Joel Block and his son, and Alvin Hayes, Jr. It was wonderful for everyone to get to know one another.

During the walk, safety was discussed by some. Paul Penoliar, the OTD who directs therapy at the Carson Stroke Center, gave encouraging words.
