Volunteering with the Stroke Support Association is a very rewarding experience! A mutual respect and passion for providing quality support to those we serve, fosters a bond among our team members that is truly special.

As a small, local non-profit organization, Stroke Support Association relies on donations for financial support and on volunteers to deliver our services. Current Volunteer Opportunities Available:

Qualified Support Group Facilitators for Stroke Survivors and Caregivers:
Facilitators fulfill a key role in our mission to provide support, resources and education to stroke survivors, caregivers and family members through weekly support groups.

Requirements include: A background in a health-related field (social work, psychology, medical field, physical or speech therapy, other human services field), preferably with a four-year degree or higher. Three to six hours per month, several Tuesdays and/or Thursdays per month. Stroke support group meetings currently held via web conferencing; in Long Beach on Tuesdays post-pandemic.

Chosen applicants will undergo a two-hour training, plus opportunities to shadow one of our facilitators for several support groups before going solo.

Administrative Support:
Support staff and Board members as needed and as able for a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
– Calling for research information, such as a city for requirements to plan a “stroke walk.”
– Mailing prep, e.g., envelope stuffing, postage stamp and label affixing.
– Taking photos at SSA events.
Requirements include: Computer and administrative skills. Able to work independently.
