16th Annual Women’s Heart & Stroke Seminar

Stroke Support Association (SSA) hosted an information table in the 16th Annual Women’s Heart & Stroke Seminar on February 21, 2026, held at Memorial Care Long Beach Medical Center. The event brought together community members and healthcare professionals for an important conversation about heart and brain health.

With stroke ranking as the fifth leading cause of death in the United States—and a leading cause of disability—SSA welcomed the opportunity to raise awareness about its programs and services. Beyond offering weekly support groups for stroke survivors and caregivers, SSA participates at health fairs and community events, providing information to the public on stroke warning signs, symptoms, risk factors, and prevention.

The seminar also featured expert speakers, including May Nour, MD, an Interventional and Vascular Neurologist, who presented “New Horizons in Stroke Care.” Her presentation highlighted advancements in stroke care and reinforced the importance of education and early intervention.

In addition, attendees had access to on‑site health screenings to assess risk factors such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and glucose levels, empowering participants to take proactive steps toward better health.Thanks go to Angie West, the manager of Long Beach Medical Center’s Stroke Unit, for inviting us and to Sylvia Polinski, Michelle Chung, and Fran Valenzuela for staffing our table.
