Introducing Stroke Support Association’s new Executive Director: Tracy Markley

Stroke Support Association is excited to have Tracy L. Markley joining us as our new Executive Director. Tracy has been working and studying in the fitness industry since 1994. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, and energy will be a real asset to our organization and mission.

Tracy first learned about Stroke Support Association (SSA) through our website and Facebook page. She was invited to speak at one of SSA’s support group meetings. A fitness specialist, personal trainer, and a stroke and exercise expert, Tracy presented “Stroke Recovery & Exercise: When Physical Therapy Ends, Then What?” She spoke of how and in what order the brain communicates with the limbs, and demonstrated how to use a balance disc, holding the core steady to improve balance. Her presentation was so well-received that Tracy was invited back to speak again at a subsequent SSA group meeting.

Tracy is an award-winning author of nine books, including “The Stroke of an Artist: The Journey of a Fitness Trainer and a Stroke Survivor”; “Stroke Recovery: Regaining Arm Movement”; “Stroke Recovery: Leg Stability and Walking Gait”; and “Your Brain, The Engine to Your Body”.

She owned Tracy’s Personal Training & Boot Camps in Huntington Beach, California before moving to Oregon and starting her fitness training business there. She has recently moved back to Long Beach.

Tracy holds many certifications and awards including the 2021 IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year, 2020 IDEA finalist, 2019 National Fitness Hall of Fame “Today’s Top Trainers,” and 2019 Medical Fitness Professional of the Year first runner up. Tracy is also a contributor and monthly writer with the Live Love and Eat magazine and the radio show host of The Health and Fitness Show with Tracy KXZR 90.7 FM radio on the Oregon coast.
